چکیده
Chloroplast Membranes, Lipid Peroxidation, Singlet Oxygen, H erbicide Dam age, Chloroplast Pigments The breakdown of chlorophylls, carotenoids, and linolenic acid together with the formation o f malondialdehyde and ethane was followed in isolated pea chloroplast membranes. Breakdown was enhanced by light, oxygen, D 20 and rose bengal, but retarded by crocetin. The results are discussed in relationship to the role o f singlet oxygen in promoting dam age in vivo.

Structure-activity-relationship of inhibitors of photosynthetic electron flow. Herbicidal N-alkylated-ureas and ringclosed N-acylamides as inhibitors of photosystem II.
The inhibitory action of some herbicides on photosynthetic electron flow at photosystem II in isolated chloroplasts was investigated. Emphasis in the study is on compounds, whose chemical structure seemed to be in disaccordance with the basic structural element, proposed to be required for a photosystem II inhibitor. The effective inhibition of photosynthetic oxygen evolution by N-alkylated ure...
متن کاملHerbicides which Inhibit Electron Transport or Produce Chlorosis and Their Effect on Chloroplast Development in Radish Seedlings I. Chlorophyll a Fluorescence Transients and Photosystem II Activity
Diuron and bentazon are very strong inhibitors of the photosynthetic electron transport in isolated radish chloroplasts. The chlorosis producing herbicide SAN 6706 also inhibited the photosystem II dependent oxygen evolution. Aminotriazole had no effect. The inhibitor concentration for 50% inhibition of photosystem II activity was 10-7 m for diuron and 10-4 m for bentazon and SAN 6706 respectiv...
متن کاملInhibition of Photosynthetic Electron Transport by Halogenated 4-Hydroxy-pyridines
Herbicidal halogen substituted 4-hydroxypyridines are inhibitors of photosynthetic electron flow in isolated thylakoid membranes by interfering with the acceptor side of photosystem II. Tetrabromo-4-hydroxypyridine, the most active compound found, has a pl50-value of 7.6 in the inhibition of oxygen evolution in both the reduction of an acceptor of photosystem I and an acceptor of photosystem II...
متن کاملInteraction of Photosystem II Herbicides with Bicarbonate and Formate in Their Effects on Photosynthetic Electron Flow
The reactivation of the Hill reaction in C 0 2-depleted broken chloroplasts by various concen trations of bicarbonate was measured in the absence and in the presence o f photosystem II herbicides. It appears that these herbicides decrease the apparent affinity o f the thylakoid membrane for bicarbonate. Different characteristics o f bicarbonate binding were observed in chloroplasts o f triazin...
متن کاملResponses to bleaching herbicides by leaf chloroplasts of maize plants grown at different temperatures.
The effects of growth temperature on chloroplast responses to norflurazon and amitrole, two herbicides inhibiting carotenogenesis, at phytoene desaturation and lycopene cyclization, respectively, were studied in leaves of maize plants grown at 20 degrees C and 30 degrees C in light. At the lower temperature both chemicals caused severe photo-oxidative damage to chloroplasts. In organelles of no...
